Getting a late start after a long day of travel the day before. Posing for our “last seen here” photos at the trailhead. (L to R Ken, Heath, Paul Kevin, Jen) The hike started off smoothly in the dry wash before the start of wire pass. The first unsteady steps into Buckskin Gulch and the icy water rushing through it. Near dusk we determined that we were only HALFWAY to the spring we had planned to hike to. Camp night 1 (photo taken the next morning) The scenery and the company kept our spirits high on this tough trip. A huge boulder is wedged in the canyon overhead. Finally to the confluence of the Buckskin and Paria! The water on the morning of day 3 was agony on our cold feet. The cold water was enough to bring Jen tears (the guys all admitted they were crying on the inside). Later that day the weather turned for the better and remained mild the rest of the trip. Jen is all smiles! “Only 3.5 miles to camp”. Day 4 we hiked without our backpacks high above the riparian Wrather Canyon. “Yes, we are sexy….I mean, this looks like a good place to rest”. We filled up at the last reliable water source. Long hiking hours made for a late night 4 camp set-up Kevin sighs, “Whew, my knees are stiff!” Morning day 5. Heath falls on the last day “Somebody had to do it!” Sign out log (We teased our hiking friend Matt who didn’t join us this trip). Sweet success (and more teasing of our absent friend).
